Twitter User Says White People Need to Get Over 9/11

For most Americans, 9/11 is typically a day for reflection and paying homage to the thousands of innocent civilians killed by Islamic radicals in 2001.

By all accounts, the attack set a new course for the country, changing everything from the federal government’s approach to foreign policy to how everyday Americans view the role of government in their own private lives.

For others, however, 9/11 is the perfect time to demonstrate your ignorance to the world. This vacuous tweet is the perfect example of the latter.

To start, the Twitter user seems to believe that only white people were affected by the terror attacks which took place that day, and therefore they are the only demographic which cares to commemorate it each year. There is a hypocrisy here, she says, because black people are allegedly told to “let go” of the horrors of slavery 200 years prior.

There is a clear difference between these two stains on America’s history. Many people who died during the 9/11 attacks left behind friends and family that still live on to this day. However, not a single slave or a single slaveowner still exists.

This does not mean America should turn its back on the negative aspects of its history. It does, however, mean that this Twitter user has a dull understanding of history, and probably has some identity issues to take care of as well.
