President Donald Trump made history once again on Sunday by signing a proclamation aboard Air Force One officially declaring February 9th as “Gulf of America Day” while flying over the newly renamed body of water.
A Bold Move to Restore American Pride
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced the historic moment in a post on X.
“MOMENTS AGO ON AF1: President Trump signed a Proclamation declaring February 9th ‘Gulf of America Day’ while flying over the newly and appropriately named GULF OF AMERICA!”

The White House followed up with a video showing Trump signing the proclamation, marking the first time in history a sitting president flew over what was formerly known as the Gulf of Mexico.

Trump’s proclamation underscored his commitment to restoring national pride:
“Today, I am very honored to recognize February 9, 2025, as the first-ever Gulf of America Day,” Trump wrote. “As my Administration restores American pride in the history of American greatness, it is fitting and appropriate for our great Nation to come together and commemorate this momentous occasion.”
A Name That Honors American Strength
The move was met with enthusiastic support from his administration. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum hailed the renaming as a victory for American heritage.
“It’s official! Congratulations @POTUS on the Gulf of America! Interior has implemented your instruction from the Executive Order on Restoring Names That Honor American Greatness,” Burgum posted.

Trump first floated the idea of renaming the Gulf of Mexico at his first press conference as the 47th President, declaring that the new name had “a beautiful ring” and was “appropriate” given America’s long-standing presence and influence in the region.
Restoring American Names
Trump’s push to restore names that honor America’s history isn’t stopping with the Gulf of America. He has also advocated for renaming Alaska’s Mount Denali back to Mount McKinley, after the 25th president of the United States, William McKinley.
“McKinley was a very good, maybe a great president,” Trump said at a rally. “They took his name off Mount McKinley, right? That’s what they do to people. Now, he was a great president, very good president. At a minimum, he was a very good businessman.”
The renaming efforts are part of Trump’s broader agenda to reverse politically motivated name changes and restore a sense of national pride in America’s history.
The Bottom Line: Trump’s America-First Legacy Continues
By renaming the Gulf and pushing to restore historical names, Trump is once again defying the globalist agenda and reclaiming America’s identity. The left will undoubtedly fume, but the silent majority knows that this is about honoring America—not erasing it.
