Since President Donald Trump announced he would ending the Deferred Action on Childhood Arrivals program and give Congress a chance to actually do its job, left-wing social media pages have been in a constant uproar.
This image, shared by liberal Facebook page The Other 98%, tries to draw some sort of parallel between the DACA announcement and Trump’s decision to pardon Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
Truthfully, the only commonality between the events is that they were both entirely legal. That’s about where the similarities end.
What wasn’t legal was President Barack Obama implementing DACA in the first place. Unlike other executive orders, DACA represented a change in federal policy — which is not the job of the executive branch.
By asking Congress to actually write a law, Trump may end up helping the close to one million children who were brought into the United States illegally. But even if Republicans in Congress end up changing this policy, it will still show that Trump has far more respect for Democratic institutions than his predecessor had.
