Last week, former Vice President Joe Biden officially entered the race for 2020, and instantly became the flavor of the week for the mainstream media.
But that wasn’t the real news the media was fawning over. Biden has been expected to announce another presidential run for months now. What really caught the media’s attention was a poll that put him a full eight points ahead of President Donald Trump in a hypothetical match up.
Now, we’ve seen this movie before — and not even that long ago.
In 2016, Trump was consistently polling behind basically everyone. When he announced, there was no way he was going to make it to the debate stage — then he did. After that, there was no way he was going to cinch the Republican Party’s nomination — but he did that too. Finally, there was no way — in any universe — that he could defeat Hillary Clinton in a general election. We all remember what happened next.
The polling was wrong right up until the election was over. Considering how lukewarm the reception to Biden has been by the actual American public, it looks like 2020 really will be a sequel after all.
