While spending time to take part in the Hurricane Harvey relief effort, Texas Senator Ted Cruz fended off a classic leftist “gotcha” question from the media.
During a recent interview, a reporter asked the senator why he is supporting federal aid for his home state after he voted against an aid package for the Northeast after Hurricane Sandy. Here’s how he responded:
“[it was] a $50 billion bill filled with pork and unrelated spending that wasn’t hurricane relief…It was simply local members of Congress spending on their pet projects and two-thirds of what was spent in that bill had little or nothing to do with Hurricane Sandy.”
Despite being instantly vilified throughout the mainstream media sphere, a quick review of very recent history reveals Cruz is entirely correct.
At the time, President Obama wanted Congress to pass a $60 billion package for Hurricane Sandy relief. Many amendments to the bill had little to nothing to do with the Northeast at all, with some money delegated for research projects in Alaska and even some funding set aside for pet projects in Washington, DC.
