As if this narrative couldn’t get more exhausting, here it is on the top of Reddit’s /r/PoliticalHumor…
The top portion of the virtue-signaling meme shows a still from Mel Gibson’s The Patriot with the caption “how Trump supporters think they look”. This is contrasted with the bottom image showing overweight individuals waving Confederate flags – one with a white pride symbol. Over this was the caption “how they actually look.”
The goal here is to continue leftist race-baiting by linking conservatism to the Confederacy and its racist elements. It’s a comparison left-wingers have been promoting for the better part of two years at this point, and it’s effect is all but the same.
Of course, no one can pretend that the so-called alt-right doesn’t have it’s racist elements – it does, although the media has dramatically exaggerated their influence on the populist movement at large.
The major error here is identifying the American South as Trump’s base, when in fact this is the part of the country he struggled with the most during the Republican Party’s primary elections in 2016. In fact, Trump performed the best in Democrat-controlled areas, particularly the Rust Belt and other “fly-over” parts of the country.
