In order to ensure that illegal aliens remain in the country after being jailed for crimes, President Biden’s DHS is successfully implementing out its plan to substantially curtail interior migration enforcement.
Following his inauguration, Biden’s top DHS officials adopted so-called “sanctuary country” regulations that barred ICE agents from apprehending and expelling the majority of the country’s 11 to 22 million illegal immigrants.
Biden’s DHS has reduced the amount of ICE detainers filed for illegal aliens caught for crimes and then held in local jails around the U.S., even though those practices are still being challenged in federal court. According to the detainers, local authorities are to keep illegal immigrants in their care until ICE agents can take control.
Less than 79,000 arrest warrants for criminal illegal immigrants were issued by ICE agents in Fiscal Year 2022, according to the year-end ICE report. This is a 56 percent decrease in overall detainers filed by ICE agents comparing to Fiscal Year 2018.
Less than 145,000 illegal aliens who have been detained for crimes in the U.S. since Biden assumed office have had detention requests made by DHS. Comparatively speaking, the Trump admin. issued 20,000 more ICE arrest warrants in Fiscal Year 2019 than Joe Biden did in his first two years in office.
The dramatic decrease in ICE detainers filed by DHS means that illegal aliens accused of crimes like murder, kidnapping, assault, robbery, or sexual abuse are remaining in the country while their cases are being tried after they have been found guilty, or while they are serving their sentences.
In contrast to the almost 2,500 illegal aliens who had homicide charges brought against them in Fiscal Year 2019, only 1,751 detainers were issued in homicide cases in Fiscal Year 2022. The same is true for kidnappings; in Fiscal Year 2019 over 2,500 detainers on illegal aliens charged were issued, while less than 2,000 were issued in Fiscal Year 2022.
Detainers have decreased in each of the ICE-identified violent crime categories, showing that less and less illegal aliens are being sought out for imprisonment on criminal charges.
