In the absence of President Joe Biden, VP Kamala Harris is leading in a theoretical 2024 Democratic Primary fight, according to a Zogby Analytics poll released this week.
Biden led his possible competitors by double digits — 41 percent — in the survey’s post-midterm poll. No other possible candidate came close, with Harris coming in second with 11% support, followed by Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Transport Sec. Pete Buttigieg with 9%.
When Biden is removed from the picture, Harris takes a commanding 32% support, 19% over Sanders’ 13%. In that case, Buttigieg comes in third with 10% support, trailing California Governor Gavin Newsom (9.5%), Senator Elizabeth Warren (9.3%), Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (5.6%), and unsuccessful gubernatorial contender Stacey Abrams (5.1%).
The poll included 859 midterm election respondents who are expected to vote in the Democratic primary. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.3 percent.
Biden, on the other hand, has shown no signs of retiring in 2024, which might lead to a 2020 rematch against former Pres. Donald Trump, who formally began his presidential candidacy last month.
In a private conversation, Biden reportedly told Al Sharpton that he intends to run for re-election.

This is despite the fact that most Americans do not want the 80-year-old president to run for a second term. According to a recent Politico poll, 65% of Americans believe Biden should not run for reelection in 2024. A little more than a quarter say he should.
However, other Democrats are already backing Biden, like Nancy Pelosi, House Speaker (D-CA), who announced last month that she will support Biden if he runs for reelection, calling him “a terrific president for our nation” who has allegedly “accomplished so much.”
