Recently, a video profiling a “woke” church in California went viral — shared on social media mainly by people who wouldn’t be caught dead in a church to begin with.
The Greater Purpose Church, which nets some hipster points for serving craft beer during worship services, is led by pastor Christopher VanHall, who uses some of the proceeds from donations to support Planned Parenthood — the nation’s leading abortion provider.
But that’s not all — VanHall is also committed to the progressive cause of rewriting history and culture all while pretending no one is going to notice or care. In a recent interview, VanHall referred to Jesus of Nazareth as a “person of color” and a resident of Palestine — none of which is true.
Jesus, by all accounts, was a Hebrew who would have likely had a similar complexion as the ancient Greeks and ancient Romans (all Mediterranean civilizations) who lived in a place called Judea — a client state-turned territory of the Roman Empire. Would he have been considered an oppressed minority? Absolutely. But, his story doesn’t exactly fit into the race-baiting narrative progressives want it to.
It’s always humorous when radical secularists try to win over the hearts and minds of the people they hate using Scripture…it’s almost too easy to see through.
