Following reports of a gunshot at a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, some on the left used the event to promote conspiracy theories that the incident was staged.
When gunfire broke out, Trump was addressing his supporters from a podium in Butler, Pennsylvania. Before Secret Service agents enveloped him, he grasped at his ear. Then the ex-president got to his feet and raised his fist at the assembly. His ear was obviously gushing with blood.
“Trump coordinated it all.”
Some others claimed on social media that the incident was a fake, while many others sent their condolences and prayers for the president.
“There is no doubt that the right staged President Trump’s attempted shooting in order to gain support and votes.” One tweet stated, “Looks like the guy is telling his security team, ‘Wait, this is perfect,’ and raising his fist, haha.”
“Pay close attention—it will all prove to be a hoax.” Trump organized it all,” said another user.
It’s a fabrication, this Trump shooting. “His bodyguards are completely incompetent,” remarked another critic.
“Three bullets, no hits; don’t hurry him off the stage, and he gets his picture.” No one is moving. Hoax,” said a second reply.
Another user retorted, “I mean, what a coincidence this Trump fraud happened in a state he needs.”
An account identifying as progressive said, “THIS IS A HOAX, exactly like Jen. 6th, @realDonaldTrump SET THIS UP and intended to get shot in here – tight link to the Trump campaign.”
Following a “security incident,” the Secret Service has verified that Trump sustained injuries. He is currently receiving medical attention at a facility.
