According to reports, the Harris team is looking for a way to hide Kamala Harris’s radical past as a vice president and US senator.
Leading New York Times writers assessed Harris as the least electable of ten potential Democratic contenders, and GovTrack’s rating identified her as the most radical senator of 2019. Harris was even more left-leaning than socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
Here’s a sample of Harris’s radical background:
- Supporting measures in tandem to prevent the deportation of illegal immigrants
- Endorsing Sanders’ proposed Medicare for All law
- Supporting the prohibition of private health insurance
- Endorsing the Green New Deal
- Advocating for a fracking ban
Politico Playbook reported on Wednesday that since Harris’s background is unlikely to win over many independents in swing states, her team is looking for a way to hide her history as a senator and vice presidential candidate.
“Harris’ team is reportedly still figuring out how they’ll react to such attacks. Anticipate her to attempt to redirect inquiries concerning her prior opinions as a senator and candidate to the job she has accomplished as vice president during the previous four years.”
These are the opinions of a Democrat, of course, who jumped on a leftward wave during a presidential race that many in the party, possibly including Harris, now believe was a terrible idea. She was having difficulty gaining traction in a party that at the time seemed to be swinging strongly left, as some of her former assistants have acknowledged.”
Three people close to Harris told Playbook that, despite her desire to conceal her past, she would not resign from her posts or turn away from the Biden administration’s policies for three reasons:
- Harris collaborated on policy with President Joe Biden for three years.
- Harris will not wish to tarnish Biden’s reputation.
- As Biden’s vice president, Harris still has to collaborate with him on a daily basis.
In her first public appearances since entering the Democratic primaries, Harris defended the administration’s track record of mishandled policies.
She asked for applause as she stated, “Joe Biden’s legacy of success over the previous three years is unequaled in contemporary history.” “Yes, you may clap. In one term, he has already done so. He has already outlived most presidents who have held office for two terms in one term.
