If Twitter Was Honest On It’s Sign Up Page

Welcome to Twitter — the part of the internet that allows all of us to see just how stupid celebrities are throughout the day.

Of course, Twitter has served another, more nefarious purpose. Its bait status as a platform for self-expression has become weaponized as rapid social justice warriors use it to ruin the livelihoods of anyone caught with the wrong opinions.

Take the recent Oscar’s controversy for example. Kevin Hart, a comedian who by definition makes a living off of being offensive and irreverent, lost a gig as the host for this year’s festivities because his older tweets were found to be offensive and irreverent.

If you think this phenomenon is limited to A-list celebrities, you have another thing coming. Numerous users without a blue checkmark next to their names have recalled receiving the same treatment — all for saying things that would have been considered well within the window of acceptable opinion, or at least acceptable humor, just a few short years ago.

By all means, continue using the platform if you enjoy it — just don’t for one second be fooled into believing that your First Amendment rights apply there.
