The fact that the majority of sports fans (especially football) tend to have at least some conservative beliefs is no accident.
After all, sports like football are based entirely on admiring competition — an environment where conservatives thrive. There’s only one winner in the NFL, and the path to victory is laced with injuries, tough calls, and even a few losses. Of course, those who play the game aren’t afraid of any of those plights, and they understand this is exactly what makes then more capable.
But, what if a socialist like Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders took Roger Goodell’s spot? What would footall look like?
The meme to the left is purely satirical, but it does leave us wondering what someone like Bernie would actually do at the helm of a major sports franchise.
At the core of socialist philosophy is the idea that those who are successful are only so because they were able to secure more resources than others — often at their expense. By this logic, why shouldn’t every team get to play in the Super Bowl regardless of their performance during the regular season?
Thankfully, Bernie is not in charge, and football is still watchable.
