Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said on Tuesday that removing Twitter from the App Store would be a “big mistake and… blatant exercise of monopolistic power” that would require a reaction from Congress.
Elon Musk, the billionaire businessman who purchased Twitter earlier this year, stated last week that he would back DeSantis for president in 2024. Former President Donald Trump launched a presidential run in 2024 earlier this month, but DeSantis, a Republican who recently won reelection in Florida, has not indicated any plans to run.
“Apple also has threatened to remove Twitter from its App Store, but has refused to explain why,” Musk tweeted on Monday, after indicating last week that if Google and Apple removed Twitter from their app stores, he would produce “an alternate phone.”
Musk has stated that he would like Twitter to be a platform for free expression. He has already reinstated some accounts since taking over the social media company, including former President Donald Trump’s. Musk has stated that previously suspended accounts that have not broken the law or perpetrated “egregious spam” will be granted amnesty.
Twitter appears to have ceased implementing its COVID-19-related filtering policy. “Twitter will no longer enforce the COVID-19 deceptive information policy as of Nov. 23, 2022,” the firm stated.
“The Twitter Files on free speech suppression will be revealed soon on Twitter. The public has a right to know what transpired,” Musk took to Twitter on Monday. “This is a war for civilization’s survival. If free speech is lost even in America, only dictatorship awaits,” he tweeted.
Tim Cook is no match for Elon Musk! That’s all I can say!
