DeSantis Defends Drivers: Safety Over Mob Intimidation

America is at a crossroads, folks. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has stirred controversy by boldly proclaiming that Floridians have the right to drive through protesters blocking roads if they feel their safety is at risk. While the mainstream media rushes to paint this as radical or extreme, the reality is that DeSantis is standing firm to protect everyday Americans from the chaos and mob rule we’ve seen too often in recent years.

Speaking with Dave Rubin on “The Rubin Report,” DeSantis made it clear: “We also have a policy that if you’re driving on one of those streets and a mob comes and surrounds your vehicle, and threatens you, you have a right to flee for your safety. And so if you drive off and you hit one of these people, that’s their fault for impinging on you.”

Predictably, leftist activists are outraged. They claim their protests are peaceful, yet we’ve all seen videos of cars surrounded, windows smashed, and innocent drivers terrified for their lives. Remember, peaceful protest doesn’t mean you have the right to hold innocent citizens hostage in their vehicles. DeSantis is simply reinforcing existing laws that prioritize the rights and safety of ordinary citizens over the whims of mobs.

The governor’s spokesperson, Molly Best, put it plainly: “In Florida, violence is not condoned, and residents have the right to defend themselves and their families.” This shouldn’t be controversial, folks. It’s common sense. But in today’s upside-down political environment, defending law-abiding citizens is treated as an attack on civil liberties.

Let’s put this clearly: Blocking roads is illegal. Threatening drivers is illegal. Citizens have every right, morally and legally, to escape dangerous situations. Are we seriously expected to sit idle while mobs surround and intimidate us? Should drivers risk becoming the next victim of mob violence, dragged from their cars and beaten? Absolutely not.

Left-wing media outlets, including Newsweek, are quick to dredge up the tragedy of Charlottesville in 2017, where a violent extremist deliberately drove into innocent people. But let’s stop the false equivalencies. Ron DeSantis isn’t condoning deliberate violence against protesters—he’s affirming the right to self-defense when someone is genuinely threatened.

Ironically, the same leftist sympathizers who decry DeSantis’ stance conveniently ignore incidents of actual mob violence. They turn a blind eye to cases where protesters have smashed vehicles, attacked drivers, and created life-threatening situations. Instead, they focus on isolated incidents or hypothetical scenarios to demonize conservative leaders who dare to stand for law and order.

Consider recent events: the upcoming “No Kings” protests claim to be peaceful, yet there have been numerous examples nationwide where so-called peaceful protests devolved into chaos. When streets are blocked, emergency vehicles delayed, and innocent Americans put in harm’s way, elected officials have a duty to act decisively. Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has also rightly mobilized the National Guard to maintain peace amid escalating demonstrations. This isn’t authoritarianism—it’s responsible leadership.

Yet, the media narrative remains alarmingly skewed. Dave Rubin referenced a recent example in Chicago where a driver sped through protesters, injuring a 66-year-old woman. While tragic, the footage reportedly shows protesters occupying the street. Why isn’t the media asking why protesters were unlawfully blocking public roads in the first place? Why isn’t that scenario scrutinized with equal vigor?

America First means prioritizing safety, lawfulness, and common sense. Governor DeSantis is courageously defending citizens’ rights to protect themselves against unlawful mob intimidation. He’s reaffirming a simple truth: your right to protest ends where another person’s safety begins.

We cannot allow radical activists to rewrite the rules of society, turning our streets into battlefields and our vehicles into prisons. Americans deserve leaders who stand firmly against chaos, violence, and intimidation. Governor DeSantis has shown once again he’s willing to make tough decisions to protect Floridians and uphold the rule of law. It’s time we unapologetically support him—and any leader willing to stand for safety, order, and the rights of the everyday American.
