In the hours following Donald Trump’s triumphant return to the White House, Google searches for contraception and Planned Parenthood skyrocketed. It seems the same Hollywood elites and blue-state Twitterati who promised to flee to Canada after the 2016 election are now fretting over their birth control. In fact, data from the Birth Injury Lawyers Group show searches for contraception shot up 254% on November 6, while searches for birth control specifically rose by 109% and IUDs by 174%. Planned Parenthood saw an identical spike in interest. It’s hard to miss the irony—these folks seem to forget that Trump isn’t coming to personally check their medicine cabinets.
The Birth Injury Lawyers Group spokesperson noted, “This increase in searches reflects a heightened interest in contraception options following the US election.” Fair enough, but let’s not forget that Trump never advocated banning contraception. The left’s dramatic response here is a reaction to their own misconceptions, not actual policy shifts. Yes, Vice President-elect JD Vance has openly called for defunding Planned Parenthood, and rightly so. As he said, “We don’t think that taxpayers should fund late-term abortions.” And while the mainstream media loves to emphasize how “rare” these procedures are, justifying any tax dollars for late-term abortions remains out of touch with a significant portion of the American populace.
The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025—a document designed as a policy blueprint for any incoming conservative administration—proposes some changes around how emergency contraception is classified under the ACA. Their idea? To align definitions so that emergency contraceptives like the morning-after pill aren’t classified as regular contraception. But Trump has already distanced himself from Project 2025’s more extreme suggestions, making it clear he’s more interested in securing the economic and border policies that resonate with Americans across the political spectrum.
To set the record straight, Trump took to Truth Social, bluntly posting, “I HAVE NEVER, AND WILL NEVER ADVOCATE IMPOSING RESTRICTIONS ON BIRTH CONTROL, or other contraceptives. This is a Democrat fabricated lie, MISINFORMATION/DISINFORMATION, because they have nothing else to run on except FAILURE, POVERTY, AND DEATH.”
All this handwringing over birth control? It’s just another way for Democrats to stir up fear when real issues like inflation, border security, and national defense don’t work in their favor. They can try to paint Trump as “anti-contraception,” but that’s not the narrative his record supports. Instead of dreaming up nightmare scenarios, maybe Democrats should try listening to the American people—because, as this election has proven, they’re looking for real leadership, not scare tactics.
