Dems’ Desperate, Last-Minute Plot To Tie Trump’s Hands

Senator Dick Durbin’s latest move to demand the Department of Justice release confidential memos on presidential military authority is a textbook example of Democratic theatrics. The Illinois Democrat, who chairs the Senate Judiciary Committee, has sent a formal letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland requesting the release of internal DOJ opinions about the president’s power to use the military domestically. Durbin says he’s worried about transparency, but anyone paying attention knows this is just another excuse to preemptively attack Donald Trump.

In his letter, Durbin whined about the need for “public clarity” on these issues, claiming the American people deserve to know how the executive branch interprets its authority. Let’s be honest here: the timing of this grandstanding isn’t about principle. It’s about panic. Durbin is terrified of Trump’s return and what it means for their cozy D.C. status quo. Transparency wasn’t exactly a top priority during the Obama administration, but now it’s suddenly urgent?

Durbin pointed to “controversial” memos issued by the Office of Legal Counsel, the DOJ’s legal advisory arm. He claims these memos could allow the misuse of military force for things like suppressing protests or enforcing immigration laws. Oh, the horror! Imagine a president enforcing the law and maintaining order. To Democrats, that’s apparently scarier than open borders or violent riots in the streets.

The senator also urged Garland to rescind five unspecified OLC memos, hinting that they overextend presidential power. Of course, he didn’t offer any concrete evidence. Vague accusations and moral posturing are all part of the game.

What’s really going on here? Democrats are scrambling to undermine Trump’s potential 2025 agenda before it even begins. Trump’s plans to restore law and order, secure the border, and clean up the swamp have them shaking in their Birkenstocks. The DOJ, under Trump’s leadership, would prioritize the Constitution and the American people over the Democrats’ endless virtue-signaling and policy failures.

Durbin’s letter is just another chapter in the left’s ongoing tantrum over Trump. They fear him because he’s not afraid to use the tools of government to protect the nation—something they’ve consistently failed to do. As Trump’s inauguration approaches, Democrats will keep shouting about imaginary threats while Trump focuses on making America safe and strong again. That’s the real story.
