Right as President Donald Trump was defending the Second Amendment and his support from the NRA at CPAC 2018, several major businesses announced a termination of their relationship with the lobby group after facing vicious backlash from their own users.
These businesses included Enterprise Rent-a-Car, which sounded off on just this in the tweet seen on the left. From now on, NRA members will no longer be entitled to any discounts when renting a vehicle from any of the conglomerate’s subsidiaries.
Other participants in the virtue-signaling circus included Omaha National Bank and insurance company MetLife.
Considering the nature of these businesses, it’s hard to imagine that this backlash comes from a place any other than a desperate PR battle. With the Second Amendment under historic scrutiny in the aftermath of a deadly mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, high-profile entities are in a scramble to repudiate any standing relationship they may have ever had with the NRA.
