A Venezuelan immigrant was detained by Texas Department of Public Safety troopers on suspicion of enlisting middle school pupils in the vicious Tren de Aragua (TdA) gang.
On October 7, Fox 26 Houston reported that 32-year-old Jorgenys Robertson Cova was taken into custody by Texas DPS troopers in Houston. Sharpstown, in southwest Houston, was rocked by the arrest of the Venezuelan immigrant who entered the country illegally under the Biden-Harris administration. It is believed that Cova is enlisting middle school pupils for the Tren de Aragua gang.
Locals questioned by Fox 26 said the following:
“The schools are located in the Sharpstown hamlet, where locals have expressed alarm about the growing threat. A lot of things have happened that are on the news, so if it is happening elsewhere it might also be happening inside our neighborhoods and we’re unaware of it,” said Janice, a local.
“The news has shaken the community’s confidence in safety, and many are calling for more police and government intervention to stop things from getting worse and turning into a serious situation, said Janice.
“I believe it’s detrimental to the neighborhood and the community, and I believe the authorities, including the police department, should take action before we reach a critical situation,” stated a different neighbor.
Governor Greg Abbott of Texas has authorized a crackdown on the Venezuelan prison gang, which includes the arrest of the accused recruiter for the TdA group. Governor Abbott stated that he is providing law enforcement with every tool possible to combat the dangerous TdA gang in a late September exclusive interview with Breitbart Texas.
By designating the Venezuelan prison gang as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, Governor Abbott has given law enforcement more resources to use against members of the TdA gang.
Governor Abbott announced a $5,000 prize for “any information that leads to the identification and arrest of suspected or known members of this gang who have been involved in heinous crimes” as part of the State’s crackdown on TdA gang members.
“Texas will not allow these criminals to terrorize our people by using our state as a base of operations.”
Abbott also said, “Our goal is to make sure we find them, arrest them, and lock them up.”
