Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) responded to reporting from The Intercept on government agencies collaborating with tech platforms to restrict online speech on Wednesday’s Fox News Channel’s “Ingraham Angle,” saying that, for all of the Biden govt’s talk regarding democracy, “they’re attempting to undermine the very basic principles of our constitutional republic” by trying to censor speech.
“You know, for all the talk about democracy, it appears to me that they’re destroying the most fundamental principles of our constitutional republic,” Paul remarked. “The First Amendment included freedom of expression because it was one of the most fundamental rights that our founders believed should be safeguarded. However, having the government collaborate with big tech to control speech goes against everything that anyone has ever said about freedom of expression.”
“So, when we return to session, I’m going to present legislation that will prohibit the government from collaborating with private firms to control expression,” he concluded. “This is a problematic position since so many people actually believe that the First Amendment does not enable us to regulate private companies’ speech, but we can absolutely regulate the government and prevent and prohibit the government from conspiring with private tech on speech. But I believe we should likewise preclude and forbid them from collecting our data.”
If this administration wants to curtail “free speech”, start with Joe Biden …….. no one wants to hear, or care what the old sniffin pervert has got to say anyway.
