Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican who is thought to be considering a run for president in the near future, has written to President Joe Biden pleading with him to exempt tennis player Novak Djokovic from the COVID-19 immunization requirement for foreign visitors seeking to enter the United States.
GOP Senator Rick Scott of Florida claims that Djokovic’s request for a waiver has been turned down. The athlete has already withdrew from the BNP Paribas Open and will not be able to compete in the Miami Open without being granted admission into the United States.
“The COVID immunizations are no longer necessary as a means of advancing public health, according to DeSantis. “He pointed out that the COVID-19 mRNA vaccination has been recommended against guys between the ages of 18 and 39, which is precisely the age group represented by Mr. Djokovic. I humbly request that you allow his request for an exception so that he can thrill and uplift tennis fans in Florida and across the country.”
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, some non-citizens must provide proof of vaccination before flying into the United States. Similar to this, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security states that those foreign nationals who desire to enter the country “through land ports of entry and ferry terminals at the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders are required to be completely vaccinated against COVID-19 and present proof of vaccination upon request.”
According to DeSantis, Djokovic might be allowed to enter the nation by boat under the present regulations. The governor proposed the possibility and requested confirmation from the executive branch.
“I’m also confused as to why Mr. Djokovic was not permitted to enter this nation legitimately by boat even under the rules of your own declaration. Please confirm that this means of entry into Florida would be legal by Friday, March 10, 2023 “According to DeSantis’ letter.
Furthermore, DeSantis said, “Your administration purposefully permitted thousands of unvaccinated migrants to enter our nation across the southern border even as you implemented the Proclamation on air travel that is still in effect today. Overall, the current ‘travel restriction’ as applied to Mr. Djokovic — and likely millions of other prospective unvaccinated foreign visitors — seems entirely ungrounded in logic, common sense, or even any real concern for the health and welfare of the American people,” the author writes.
