America’s Real Philosophical Questions

Screenshots of this tweet have been popping up just about everywhere, so naturally we’re forced to address the half-arguments.

According to this tweet, posted by the account @InternetHippo, America is seriously questioning whether or not healthcare is good and if Nazis are bad. The cringe has officially reached record levels.

First, let’s talk about healthcare. It’s just about impossible to find anyone making the argument that having access to healthcare is a bad thing. The question is how much the government should be involved. Considering Obamacare’s implementation was characterized by skyrocketing costs and more and more doctors leaving the profession, it’s safe to assume this question has answered itself.

Second, let’s talk about Nazis. We can probably assume this part of the tweet refers to the controversial showdown in Charlottesville, where the so-called “Unite the Right” rally included white supremacists and their sympathizers. Virtually every true conservative has denounced the Nazi ideology time and again, but did so while recognizing that all Americans — regardless of whatever despicable beliefs they may hold — enjoy the same protections under the First Amendment. This is not the same as actually identifying as a Nazi.

These are not serious philosophical debates — this is just another example of shameless virtue signaling that does nothing to advance the national discourse.
